Onboarding starts from the moment the new hire agrees to join your team: be sure to maintain consistent communication with the future employee until their first day.
Share the new hire welcome kit at least 1 week before they join so they are fully prepared and know what to expect
Get the buddy to reach out to the new hire 1 week before they join to present themselves as a point of reference
Follow up 2-3 days later by email to ensure they have everything they need
Send them an email 1 business day before joining re-iterating how much you're looking forward to seeing them
💡Resource:
Use automatic emailing tools such as MailChimp and Mixmax, or others to improve your efficiency and ensure you don't miss this important step.

One of the most disheartening things that can happen to a new hire is to show up on their first day, and nothing is ready for them. Ensure everything is ready for them on their first day so they can start performing rapidly.
Different companies take different approaches to welcoming team members. Some companies announce the new team member arrival with a short welcome email, other companies ask new teams members to write a quick blurb abut themselves. The most important is that the new hire feels like the team's been waiting for them.
A few days before they start, get the new hire to introduce themselves too by sending a welcome message/email!
At Slite, we all write notes about ourselves and what excites us about Slite, and these get shared on our Slack channel the day before joining. Here's a fun example.
Organize a team lunch and afterwork drinks during the week.
Set time slots in the team calendar and announce it to make sure everyone clears their schedules.
Create a networking plan between the new hire and appropriate individuals across the organization.
Make sure you're not overwhelming you new hire with too many 1-1 meetings in their first days. Spread these out over the first two weeks in their calendar.
